About Brussels Livestock Show

In 2017, the livestock division of Agribex and the livestock supply industry present at the fair, were brought together under the Brussels Livestock Show.

Brussels Livestock Show is also the operational name for the association 'Algemene Veeprijskampen’ that unites the official Belgian breeding organisations and organises all livestock events at Agribex. Over the years, the association initiated several projects like the Farm Web Awards (2017, 2015), the Brussels Holstein Showmanship Competition (2015) and the European Livestock Forum (2015, 2013).

During Agribex, it is Brussels Livestock Show that transforms Hall 1 of Brussels Expo into the biggest stable of Belgium. Hunderds of animals make it their temporary home and visitors enjoy the fantastic program including several competitions, demonstrations and workshops. Each year, there are also different kinds of farm animals to admire and rare breeds - that deserve to be put in the picture more often -  to discover. Adding to this, the modern agricultural entrepreneur can meet suppliers and their high-tech services and products. However admittedly, even after all these years, unique national livestock shows remain the real highlight of Brussels Livestock Show.
Even so, the organization is keen on adding new initiatives to the good old recipe of the fair. This year for example, students will be able to participate in the Ovinpiades for Young Shepherds and also a loose jumping competition for 2- and 3-year old sport horses was added to the program. The fair-in-a-fair #WeLoveLocal tops the list of new initiatives of and was brought to life to promote locally produced food.

History

Since its launch in 1909, the animal fair and national livestock shows have been highlights at Brussels’ Agricultural Fair (now called Agribex). In 1959, some 50 years later, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture stated that because of this livestock should get a greater prominence at the event. As a result, a non-profit association was launched to bring together official breeding organizations and to organize the livestock fair independently.

More than an event

This official livestock association is now known by the name Brussels Livestock Show. Every two years, it is still responsible for giving visitors of Agribex the chance to take a look behind the scenes of Belgian livestock farming. But Brussels Livestock Show also brings together all Belgian livestock breeding organizations (beef cattle, milk cattle, horses, small farmyard animals, pigs and farmyard animals. He organization creates a bond between them, which keeps the industry on track and makes it stronger.
